Non-payment of renewal fees prior to the license expiration date may result in penalties being assessed to the license.Īdditional Approvals and Permits Required for Operating a Businessīusinesses are advised to visit the Planning Department prior to applying for a Business License. The City of Lancaster may send a renewal notice however, this notice is a courtesy. Licenses must be renewed a minimum of thirty (30) days prior to expiration. Licenses are valid for a term of twelve (12) months, commencing on the first day of the month the business began operating in the City or when the City issued the business license, whichever is earlier. Businesses who hold an active license issued by another governmental agency indicating that such person is transacting business in the City are also required to obtain a license from the City of Lancaster. Evidence of doing business include the use of signs, circulars, cards, telephone books, newspapers, internet advertising including but not limited to use of social media or other form of advertisement to represent transacting business in the City. A business license authorizes the licensee to transact business at the location designated on the license.
Per the City of Lancaster Municipal Code Title 5, Chapter 5.04 - Business Licenses and Regulations, it is unlawful for a person to transact any business in the City without first having obtained a business license.

The Business Support Center offers telephone support hours (Monday through Friday 8am-5pm PST) as well as email contact options. The Business Support Center will also offer a variety of online support options allowing for filing and paying of business license online as well as obtaining copies of forms and other relevant information. The City and HdL are working closely to ensure a seamless transition with little to no impact on our business community. HdL Business Support Center will provide the business community with the support for all aspects including application, payment, certificate issuance, and general support for your business needs. The City has contracted with the HdL Companies to provide assistance to the business community for all of their business license needs. Effective July 1, 2019, we are pleased to announce some changes to our business licensing procedures that are designed to streamline the process for remitting fees to the City.
